An oximeter has been issued to you for checking saturation levels. Specific instructions have been given to your Cherub Medical Supply clinician by your child's doctor. To safely decrease your oxygen flowrate follow these directions closely:
Be sure to place the oxisensor on the exact site recommended by your clinician. The transmitter and receiver on the probe must be opposite each other. Do not wrap the probe too tightly around the skin, this may cause a decrease in blood flow and create "false" signals.
Check the probe two or three times each day making sure it is properly secured. Change the probe site at least every 24 hours.
All oximeters will not read properly if the patient is moving. You must meet three conditions to establish an accurate reading:
Make note of the oximeter's readings every hour or so while you are awake,
making certain to record your child's movement at the time of the readings.
Once you are ready for bed, you can set the oximeter alarm limits and
respond to the alarms only.
Although this oximeter has a battery backup, it should be plugged in at all times. This unit was not meant to be used for tranport, or to be used while away from home.
Your Cherub Medical Supply clinician will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Please do not hesitate to call if concerns or problems arise.
